The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to repositioning the Cotton, Textile, and Garment (CTG) industry for sustainable growth. Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, made this announcement at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja themed “Co-Creating Solutions to Grow CTG Industry in Nigeria.”
The meeting aimed to finalize the review of the policy document for the sector’s full revitalization. Enoh emphasized the ministry’s dedication to building a robust policy and institutional framework that reflects current realities and future possibilities.
“We appreciate your usual support and cooperation. Together we can weave a new narrative for the CTG industry, one of reliance, resilience, competitiveness, and shared prosperity,” Enoh said.
The minister assured that his ministry is working hard to revive moribund industries and ensure they thrive. He encouraged Nigerians to embrace locally made goods, adding that it would help realize the nation’s potential.
Ambassador Nura Rimi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, noted that the industry’s revitalization has immense potential for economic growth, job creation, and industrial development. The CTG industry provides livelihoods for millions of families and contributes significantly to the country’s GDP.
Mrs. Adenike Ogunlesi, representing the Garment and Accessories Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, highlighted the garment sector’s importance as the demand engine of the CTG value chain. She emphasized its role in job creation, earning foreign exchange, and promoting Made-in-Nigeria products.
The stakeholders’ meeting underscores the government’s commitment to revitalizing the CTG industry and promoting economic growth through collaborative efforts.
