Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Assembly, praised NASENI’s push for affordable, cleaner energy at the launch of the NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion Training Centre and Refill Station in Kubwa, Abuja.
Represented by Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, Abbas highlighted the initiative’s role in improving lives and urged Nigerians to adopt CNG, citing successful transitions in Argentina, Pakistan, and Iran. “Nigeria could take the lead in Africa,” he said.
Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy, speaking for Chief of Staff Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, lauded the NASENI-Portland partnership as a model for private-sector-driven growth.
“Our role as government is to act as a catalyst, unlocking the private sector’s expertise,” she said.
NASENI’s CEO, Khalil Halilu, said the facility, which converts up to 20 vehicles daily, supports President Tinubu’s vision for a sustainable economy. He noted CNG’s benefits—lower costs, cleaner air, and job creation—and plans to expand such hubs nationwide within a year. NASENI has trained 30 engineers in CNG and clean energy tech.
NADDC Director-General Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin urged support for NASENI’s efforts to cut transport costs, with Portland Gas Ltd’s Managing Director, Hon. Folajimi Mohammed, thanking the government, emphasizing CNG’s potential to ease financial burdens.
