The Unguwar Wadada II extension, Abaji—the administrative headquarters of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)— has come under an erosion crisis is, affecting lives and properties, forcing many to flee their homes for safety.

Desperate for solutions, the residents urged the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to intervene and stem the tide of destruction caused by the erosion.

Residents described the erosion as a persistent threat to their safety and livelihoods for over three years. Malam Aliyu Ibrahim, whose home collapsed last year, lamented how he squeezes his family into a neighbor’s house.

“In fact, those of us whose houses were affected had contributed money and gave it to a tipper driver who comes to offload refuse inside the erosion until the situation worsened,” he decried.

Mrs. Aisha Idris, a landlady, recounted her own loss, saying half of her building has been consumed by the gully. She revealed that residents have repeatedly written to the council authorities for help, but their pleas have gone unanswered.

Malam Yakubu Alhassan, another victim, urged the council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, to collaborate with the FCT administration and secure aid from the ecological fund office.

“So, I want to use this medium to appeal to the council chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, to liaise with the FCT administration to see how the ecological fund office of the presidency will come to our aid,” he said.
