Just a few months after the dust raised by the federal government’s award of N200,000 (about $134) reward to the northern Nigerian Yobe 17-year-old secondary school girl, Nafisa Abdullahi, for conquering the world at the TeenEagle Global English Championship in London, settled, another northern Nigerian girl from Zamfara state has made Nigerians proud in faraway Malaysia.

Unlike Nafisat Abdullahi, who is Nigeria-based, a 24-year-old Fatima Az-zahra Binti Nasiru-Tsafe, who is temporarily based in Malaysia, drew the attention of Malaysians, especially the Malaysian Navy community, in a recent Royal Malaysian Navy graduation ceremony where she was pronounced the overall best reservist cadet graduand.

Nasiru-Tsafe, who was commissioned at the graduation ceremony as a 2nd Lieutenant Cadet Officer of the Royal Malaysian Navy Reserve, is also a final-year student of B.Sc Industrial Physics with Electronics at the University of Malaysia, Sabah, East Malaysia. Her academic records suggest that she may also graduate soon as the institution’s overall best.

Nasiru-Tsafe’s academic records, obtained by Education Monitor from the University’s Academic Services Division, put her ahead of her peers with distinctions in all the courses she has written from her first year to her present final year.

The 2nd Lieutenant who is the second child of the four children of the family of Nasir Tsafe Umar-Tsafe (PhD), a Toxicology Scholar, and Associate Professor, Dr Rohana Mat Nor, was born in Malaysia in 2001.

She started her education pursuits at Nottingham Islamia School, United Kingdom between 2007 – 2009, from where she proceeded to Ibn Khaldun Integrated Primary School, Kg Padang Jawa, Shah Alam, Malaysia in 2009, where she obtained her first school leaving certificate in 2013.

The young Nasir-Tsafe proceeded to Maahad Tahfiz Science School, Tanah Merah, Kelantan, Malaysia in 2014 where she obtained her SPM Secondary School Certificate in 2018.

She attended MARA University of Technology (UTM), Jengka, Pahang, Malaysia in 2019, where she obtained a diploma in Science in 2022, from where she proceeded to Universiti Malaysia Sabah, East Malaysia in 2022 where she obtained her Cadet Officer Certificate of Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of the Royal Malaysian Navy Reserve in 2025.

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is the main agency responsible for the country’s maritime surveillance and defence operations.
