On the occasion of Workers’ Day, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu lauded Nigerian workers for their invaluable contributions to national development, emphasizing the need for better working conditions.

In a statement issued Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas described workers as “partners in progress” and praised their critical role in sustaining the economy, referring to them as the “engine room.”

He acknowledged the challenges faced by workers amid economic difficulties and commended labor unions—the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC)—for their cooperation with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on welfare matters.

Abbas urged workers to remain dedicated and patriotic while calling for increased productivity, stating that “only the citizens can sustain their fatherland.”

Likewise, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, in a Wednesday statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Livinus Nwabughiogu, applauded workers for their resilience and pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s progress. The leaders’ messages underscored the importance of recognizing and improving workers’ welfare as the nation marks May Day.
